Foreign tourist arrivals this year pass 15 million in Thailand
TAT: Foreign tourist arrivals this year pass 15 million
BANGKOK: -- Tourist arrivals in Thailand hit 15.7-15.8 million this year despite internal political and flood disaster situations, according to Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Surapol Svetasreni.
The governor said there were 14.03 million tourists from January through November, and that about 1.68 million travellers are expected to enter Thailand this month, that would allow Thailand to end 2010 with roughly 15.7-15.8 million international visitor arrivals, with tourism revenue projected at Bt580 – 600 billion (US$19.29 billion– 9.95 billion).
The main reasons why Thailand is still on travellers' destination lists is their impression of Thai hospitality and services along with the country's landscapes and natural resources in different regions.
There were not many tourists in the first and second quarters, according to Mr Surapol, owing to internal political problems which lasted about 70 days. However, Thailand's tourism business returned to life in the third and fourth quarters.
Chinese travellers have maintained their position as the highest tourist figure entering the country. As a result, the TAT governor said his organisation will stimulate more mid-scale and high-end Chinese tourists to visit Thailand, followed by Scandinavian tourists to stay in Thailand longer due to their high purchasing power.
The figure of Thai tourists this year stands at about 91 million with Bt432 billion in circulation.
Around 15.5 million tourists are expected next year in the country with about Bt600 billion to be circulated. (MCOT online news)

WINE TESTING
There are 3 major components to wine tasting:
1.Appearance/Color
2.Bouquet/Aroma
3.Tasting
We start with appearance and color. The appearance of a wine can tell you a few things about the wine. Three areas the taster might look for are: clarity, depth, and liveliness. Clarity is whether a wine is clear or transparent. The opposite of this would be hazy or cloudy. Depth is more focused on the color of the wine. The colors are usually described as dark, medium, or light in color. The liveliness of a wine might be described as bright, vivid, flat, or dull. Rich colored wines might be an indicator of rich flavors. However, this is not always the case. The most important thing that the taster may detect from a wine’s color is whether it is going bad or not. White wines tend to turn brown as they age. Red wines tend to turn lighter as they age. The best way to observe the color of wine is to hold the glass against a white background and observe the top edge of the wine.
Next and perhaps the most important part of wine tasting is the bouquet and aroma of a wine. Humans can sense hundreds of aromas through smelling. Tasting a wine only allows for 4 different types of tastes. Bouquets can provide more distinctive differentiating qualities of a wine than taste. The aroma wheel (used by many wine experts) lists the following as the primary aromas to describe wine.
•Fruity
•Vegetative
•Nutty
•Caramelized
•Woody
•Earthy
•Chemical
•Pungent
•Oxidized
•Microbiological
•Floral
•Spicy
From each of these main categories, there are hundreds of additional descriptors.
In order to get the true bouquet of a wine, the taster should begin by swirling the wine in their glass. The taster should be using a big bowled glass to allow for swirling and to allow for the taster to be able to put their nose right in the glass after swirling the wine. To properly swirl the wine, the taster should place the glass flat on the table. Hold it by the stem and rotate it in a controlled circle swirling the wine. This will aerate the wine. Then it is time to take a big sniff. Put your nose right into the glass. I frequently suggest doing it a couple of times before you move on to tasting. Experts frequently refer to the smell or bouquet of the wine as "its nose." Enjoy this aspect of tasting. Take notes on what you smell before you move on to tasting the wine. Capture the moment of the bouquet. If the wine is inviting based upon its bouquet, the pleasure of its taste will only be enhanced.
To taste the wine, take a medium sip of it. People can detect 4 basic tastes. They are sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness. Most wines have flavors of the first three and are generally not salty. Once in your mouth, the taster should swirl the wine around so that it coats the front, back, and side of their tongue. This is when professional tasters refer to the wine on their palate. This allows you to sense the various flavors of the wine. Some professionals tend to carefully draw in some air as they are tasting the wine. This is again for aeration of the wine. Once you have had the wine in your mouth for a few seconds and have taken your notes on the flavors, you may swallow or spit the wine out.
When tasting the wine there are many descriptors you might experience. But each of these will fall into 3 basic categories. Again, they are one of the following:
Sweetness
•Sweetness is the opposite of dry.
•Off-dry is in the middle. It has a touch of sweetness.
•Sweet is sweet. It just depends on how much sugar is in the wine.
Acidity
•White wines are generally more acidic than red wines.
•Acidity is often an indicator of dryness.
•Acidity is indicative of the level of crispness.
•Non acidic wines are fat or flabby.
Tannin
•Tannin comes from the skins, the seeds, and the stems of the grapes.
•It causes the drying out feeling in your mouth at the end of the taste and in the finish.
•Too much tannin sometimes causes a bitter taste.
Describing the flavors of wine can vary from taster to taster. What really matters are the flavors that you taste and enjoy. You should note the flavors you like in the wine and those that you don’t. These would be good things to know so you could inform a sommelier or wine manager of what you like and don’t like in a wine. This way they could help you make a good choice when purchasing a wine you are not familiar with.
When tasting a wine the taster can sometimes feel the weight of the wine in their mouth. This weight or body of the wine is another descriptor used in wine tasting. Wines usually have 3 primary descriptors for weight. A wine could be light or thin. A light bodied wine is said to have the consistency of skim milk. A wine could be medium bodied and have the consistency of whole milk. Finally, a wine could be full bodied and have the consistency of half and half.
The feel of the wine is a little different than weight. Feel could be described as soft, smooth, and silky on one extreme and of course, harsh, rustic, and heavy at the other extreme.

How to Serve Rose Wine
There are three main kinds of rose wine: blending (a combination of red and white wines), saignee (a byproduct of red wine), and skin contact (where crushed red grape skins are kept in the young wine for several days to impart their color). No matter which method is used (though blending is quite uncommon), rose wine tends to be similar in taste to white. Easy to serve and light to drink, rose is gaining popularity in North America with wines such as California White Zinfandel
1
Chill the rose wine in the refrigerator. A bottle of wine cools at four degrees Fahrenheit every 10 minutes. Since rose optimally should be served at 50 to 56 Fahrenheit, a bottle that's at room temperature should be chilled for about 2 hours and 15 minutes before it's ready to serve.
1.2
Remove the wine from the refrigerator and peel the aluminum seal off the top. Insert a waiter's corkscrew and turn it clockwise until it is almost completely inserted into the cork. Place the foot on the top of the bottle and lever out the cork until it makes a slight hissing sound.
2.3
Pour the rose into the white wine glass. Fill it 3/4 high in the glass. Roll the bottle when you've finished pouring to keep any drops from spilling on the side of the glass.
3.4
Swirl the wine in the glass to release the bouquet. Take a small sip and swirl it in your mouth to taste it.
4.5
Place the cork back in the bottle and put it back into the fridge if there's any wine remaining. Rose can be stored for up to three days in the refrigerator.

wellness. Luxurious Spas designed with a Thai atmosphere to allow
clients to enjoy superior service without unnecessary formality.
Oasis Day Spas of Bangkok, Chiangmai, Phuket & Pattaya Thailand
Beginnings and Motivation
In August 2003, Oasis Spas burst upon the scene and revolutionized the Thai day spa experience in Chiangmai. Two, forward-thinking individuals each with special skills and knowledge merged their talents to create the spa of their dreams. It soon became the most patronized day spa in all Chiangmai, growing to five branches in four cities; Chiangmai, Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya.
To provide the optimal day spa experience, they blended the most effective ancient Thai herbs with cutting-edge expertise and added the professional pampering of highly trained therapists. The result is healthier, happier, more beautiful patrons. Whether a guest spends an hour or an afternoon they will enjoy moments their body will relish for a lifetime.
Brand Identity - Lanna Experience
Oasis Spas offer the unique "Lanna-style" spa experience. Guests delight in the graceful attention that defined Northern Thailand's golden era. The gentle and courteous Lanna ambience pervades all to create a magical place where beautiful and gracious people provide the ultimate in personal service without pretentious airs.
The Concept - Provide a Garden of Eden Hideaway
The healing ambience of peace and serenity begins the moment the guest steps into the chauffer-driven vehicle and departs the hustle and bustle of modern life. The tranquility deepens as the client passes through the gate and follows the stone pathway to an exotic world of beauty, serenity and pleasure. This place of lush foliage, wooden bridges and walkways, waterfalls, reflective ponds with fluttering gold fish, private treatment villas is encompassed by the arms of ancient venerable trees. All the senses are caressed.
Signature Treatments - Synthesis of Ancient and Modern
Oasis Spas utilize powerfully beneficial treatments developed through a synergistic fusion of traditional Thai herbs, and other natural ingredients which are applied using techniques both ancient and modern. To assure potency, each formulation used is made daily from the freshest ingredients. Guests may choose from a complete menu of treatments and therapies: scrubs, wraps, facial, foot and body massages, Jacuzzi and steam baths, and much more. Trained specialists gently coax the guest to a state of better health, beauty and tranquility.
Special Feature - Garden Villa Spa Suites
These private spa suites have terraces, Jacuzzis, glass-enclosed steam rooms, outdoor showers and restrooms. The suites provide a single location for guests to receive their entire treatment package in complete seclusion.

Following their treatment, each guest is requested to fill out a comment card and personally asked if their needs were met and desires satisfied. Both positive and negative comments are encouraged because feedback makes possible further improvements in service.
On-site Training Programs

WINE OF THE DAY (Red)
Higueruela Cosecha 2008 by Bodegas Santa Quitei
•100% Garnacha Tintorera
•From the town of Higueruela in Albacete
•Great value!
87 Points- "Recommended Spanish Wine Value."
-Wine Advocate, Issue 181, February 2009.
TASTING NOTES:
Higueruela 2008 is an inky ruby colored wine with initial dark berry aromas. It has floral and mineral characteristics with initial blackberry and cassis flavors. Higueruela finishes with the taste of black tea and licorice.
COMPOSITION: 100% Garnacha Tintorera
REGION: Almansa
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Bodegas Santa Quiteria was founded in 2001 and focuses their wine production on the Garnacha Tintorera grape. The vineyard's high elevation provides the perfect growing conditions for this type of Grenache grape. The 2008 Higueruela is composed of 100% Garnacha Tintorera.
Bodegas Santa Quiteria has a wealth of old vine Garnacha Tintorera - they are grown at high altitudes on poor soil, leading to low yields of concentrated, highly aromatic grapes.
Higueruela is made from 30-80 year old vines. The grapes are cold prefermentation macerated with dry ice to maximize color extraction and aroma and to minimize harsh tannin. After the cold soak, the grapes are fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation temperatures are kept cool in an effort to further minimize the hard tannins. After pressing, the wine is aged briefly in stainless steel before bottling - Higueruela sees no oak. (close)

DISH OF THE DAY
Basque Chicken Yassa (West african chiken)
This is a delicious Senegalese Dish. To eat it in the traditional way,
put the chicken and the sauce over rice (but I prefer cuscus) in a large
pot. Have you and your guests sit around it. Each person should dig into
the part of the pot closest to them and take a mouthful of rice and
chicken, using only his/her right hand. The left hand should never be put
inside the pot. Sometimes you need to ask someone else for help to break
a part of the chicken, that's part of the fun. The middle section of the
pot is open to all.
-5 lbs chicken pieces, skinned and washed
-1 1/4 cup of lemon juice
-1/2 cup white wine vinegar
-1/2 cup peanut oil
-3 onions, sliced
-2 sprigs of thyme
-red pepper, to taste
-2 cups water
-4 bay leaves.
Mix the lemon juice, the vinegar, half the oil, the onions and pour on
the chicken pieces in a bowl. Marinate overnight, or longer. Remove the
chicken and the onions from the marinade. Brown the chicken on both
sides. Fry the onions in the remaining oil for a few minutes. Add the
marinade, thyme, hot pepper, water and bay leaves. Simmer on medium heat
for about 10'. Return the chicken to the sauce and cook until done, about
half an hour.

BEAUTY OF HEART OF CITY
Sukhothai Bangkok Hotel Bangkok
The Sukhothai Bangkok is one of the top hotels in a city loaded with hotels. From the rooms, to dining to the impeccable service, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with your stay at the Sukhothai Bangkok.
General Overview
If you’re looking for superb luxury accommodations in Bangkok I recommend the Sukhothai hotel. It’s conveniently located in the central business and embassy districts, and within walking distance of many major points of interest, including Lumpini Park, Silom Road, and the famous River of Kings. The hotel is just minutes away from major transportation like the BTS Skytrain at Sala Daeng, the MRT subway at Lumpini and the Hualamphong railway station, making it a great starting point for any travel in or out of Bangkok.
With their state-of-the-art meeting rooms, seven excellent restaurants, lush gardens, spa and health amenities, and an elegant ballroom, you might not need to go anywhere else to find the essence of Thailand. The Sukhothai is a destination unto itself—perfect for business meetings, weddings, receptions, banquets, and cocktail parties.
Services
The Sukhothai Hotel is rich with services and amenities depending on the room type. Here’s a small list of what you’ll enjoy during your stay:
an elegant shopping arcade
valet parking
same-day laundry service
multilingual staff
babysitting service
24-hour in-room dining
on-site postal services
high speed Wi-fi Internet
swimming, tennis, squash, health spa, and golf
a medical clinic with a Doctor on call 24 hours
excellent concierge service
Rooms
The focal point of any hotel is their accommodations. This is what separates good hotels from great hotels. The Sukhothai has spared no expense to ensure their rooms leave a lasting impression. And one of the most amazing things about this hotel is the wide array of choices including three levels of standard rooms, and six levels of suites—from one to three bedrooms. However, that’s just the beginning of the detail, all rooms are impeccably designed with elegance incorporating such items as rich Thai fabrics and teakwood furnishings.
The room choices begin with the Superior Room at 38 sq. metres (409 sq. ft.) and move up to the Sukhothai Suite, “The Suite of Kings “, boasting an impressive 198 sq. metres (2132 sq. ft.). Equally impressive are their luxurious bathrooms. Like the Executive Deluxe Suite’s stunning 25 sq. metre (269 sq. ft.) space with teakwood floors enhanced by mirrors on every wall. You can relax in royal comfort on the silk chaise lounge in the centre of the room or soak in the over-sized bathtub, but if you’re in a hurry there’s also a separate shower enclosure. Add a walk-in closet, hair dryer, phone, and comfortable bathrobe, and you may never want to go home. In addition to all this luxury, here’s a list of some other amenities you’ll find:
flat screen LCD TV with satellite
electronic safe
fax machine with a dedicated line
CD player
mini-bar
tea & coffee service
stocked office area
Dining
One of my favorite things about traveling is discovering the local rich and exotic foods. Thailand never disappoints and neither does the Sukhothai with seven very different dining options right in the hotel. Starting with traditional Thai fare at Caledon, amazing seafood at the Colonade, to classic Italian at La Scala.
The Salon serves a selection of beverages and cocktails, light snacks, and even a Chocolate Buffet on the weekends. A gourmet shop called the Thimian specializes in coffee, tea, chocolate truffles and delicious pastries. For a more casual experience there’s the Poolside Cafe & Bar where you can enjoy an exotic range of health drinks while overlooking the pool. Finally, there’s a private dining facility for meeting or events.
Recreation
For sightseeing, all the best Thailand has to offer is an easy commute from the hotel, including; shopping, recreation, and nightlife. There are several shopping districts like the Bangrak Market with its dizzying array of food. Or maybe Siam Paragon is more for you. It’s the largest shopping centre in South-East Asia with over one-hundred luxury brands. There’s also the Central World Plaza, a new shopping centre for the fashion-conscious, featuring top local and international brands. But let’s not forget the King Power Duty-Free Mall, a unique shopping experience including sumptuous Thai cuisine and a spectacular theatre featuring amazing traditional Thai puppetry.
If you prefer to stay close you could check out the Zuk Bar inside the Colonade restaurant, a great place for appetizers or after-dinner drinks. It has amazing views of the courtyard garden and lotus pond, and an outdoor lounge if you’re in need of ambiance. Tuesday through Saturday there’s a great jazz band called “Rodel & Ricardo” who kick up the evening from 18.45 – 23.45 hrs.
Maybe you’d like to experience the heartbeat of Thailand at the central nightlife district along Silom or Surawongse roads. Or for a more relaxed sightseeing experience you might check out the Saphan Taksin Pier for interesting boat tours along the River of Kings. In the unlikely event you find yourself short of ideas the hotels concierge is always a helpful source of information about the city.
Business/Events
If it’s all about business they have meeting rooms located throughout the hotel and grounds – combining convenience and privacy. Most rooms can host up to 250 guests but larger parties are easily handled in the ballroom or courtyard garden. They also have a secluded tranquil villa with four meeting rooms overlooking the lush gardens. All these facilities can be elegantly adorned for formal lunch or dinner meetings, social events, weddings, or cocktail parties. Their chefs are masters who will create a menu that best suits your need, from afternoon tea to a six-course banquet.
Cost
Their rooms range in price from 4900 THB ($150.64) for the Superior Room to 6900 THB ($212.12) for the Executive Deluxe Room. To get pricing for the suites you must call for quotes. Corporate rates are available

RESORT OF THE DAY
FURAMA RESORT DANANG,Vietnam
The luxurious Furama Resort Danang is a true icon of Vietnam tourism. This 5-star haven on world-famous Bac My An beach is celebrated as Vietnam’s most prestigious resort – counting royalty, presidents, movie stars and international business leaders among its celebrity guests.
A multi-award winner for its unfaltering commitment to world-class service and facilities, the Furama is not only consistently voted Vietnam’s No 1 resort, leading international polls also rank it among the very best resorts in Asia.
But the Furama is much more than an idyllic tropical retreat, it is also a premier base for exploring one of Asia’s most exciting new destinations – in the early days of being “discovered” by international tourism.
Just a short drive from Danang lay four UNESCO-listed World Heritage Sites: the former imperial city of Hue (2 hours), the ancient ‘Silk Road’ trading port of Hoi An (30 minutes away), the spiritual centre of the Champa civilization, My Son (90 minutes) and the mystical Phong Nha Caves in Quang Binh province (7 hours), considered by some an access to the inner earth!
Da Nang has its own International Airport with daily domestic flights to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Buon Me Thuot, Pleiku, Nha Trang and Quy Nhon. There are international direct flights from Bangkok and Singapore with plans for future flights from Macau, Tokyo and Korea. Furama Resort Da Nang is just 15 minutes drive from Da Nang International Airport.
Furama Danang Resort & Spa has become the first five-star beach resort in Vietnam to provide in-room high speed internet access since August 25, 2006. The installment was just before the 3rd APEC Senior Official Meeting (APEC SOM 3) organized in Danang and Furama was selected as the host for the meeting. Before that, Furama Danang provide free wireless internet to its all public areas including lounges, restaurants, bars, ballrooms and meeting rooms.
Furama Resort & Spa has created a lasting impression for both local and international visitors. This is not only due to the government’s confidence in its attentive care for dignitaries such as Jiang Zemin – People's Republic of China's former Secretary General, Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin, Queen Sophia of Spain, Prince Henrik of Denmark, but it is also because the Furama is a place that has been selected to host significant events at both the national and international level.
